David Crane David Crane’s columns have appeared in a variety of publications and he has appeared as a commentator on radio and television, as well as a speaker and panelist in public affairs conferences.
David Crane is a graduate of Victoria University at the University of Toronto. He has worked as economics correspondent for The Globe & Mail before joining the Toronto Star where he has served as national editor, editorial page editor, business editor and economics editor. He is a member of the National Statistics Council, the advisory body to Statitics Canada.
In his journalistic career, David Crane has been a strong supporter of the importance of education, and an advocate of the importance of research and innovation as sources of economic growth. He has also been a strong voice for early childhood development and its influence on the future health and competence of individuals and populations. He has promoted the Canadian cultural identity and has supported ideas such as a Third Way which balances free market capitalism with social equity.
Author of several books, he has been praised for his clarity and understanding of the economy.
David Crane has received a number of awards and honorary degrees recognizing his contribution to our understanding of our changing economy and the nature of science and technology revolution.
