Norris McDonald Norris McDonald has either been driving in races or researching, writing and talking about motorsport for most of his adult life. As a result, his columns have a contemporary focus as well as a historical perspective.
A fan of all types of auto racing, with personal contacts virtually everywhere, McDonald writes about NASCAR, Formula One, Champ Car/IRL, sports cars and short-track cars and drivers with both knowledge and enthusiasm.
McDonald raced open-wheel supermodified race cars for 10 years in the 1980s, giving him a driver’s perspective. Since retiring as a racer, he’s been trackside announcer at the famous Oswego International Speedway in New York State and has called races at Mosport and Cayuga speedways in Ontario.
He’s a former co-host of Motorsport Radio on Toronto’s all-sports radio station The Fan 590. His weekly podcast at thestar.com/wheels, in which he previews races, serves up the gossip and lets loose with some of his famous (and frequently outrageous) opinions, is proving popular with listeners.
McDonald is chairman of the Selection Committee for the Canadian Motorsport Hall of Fame and acts as master of ceremonies at the Hall’s annual induction gala.
He is researching and writing a book, “Race Day: A History of Auto Racing in Canada,” that will be published by Warwick Publishing, Toronto, in the Spring of 2007.
