The Characters

Paul

Paul
Buckles' master, although Buckles doesn't see it that way. Paul hasn't given up hope that Buckles will grow to be a more assertive, traditional dog, but loves him nonetheless.

Jill

Jill
The permissive parent -- and Buckles knows it. He exploits her giving and forgiving nature.

Buckles

Buckles
More of an only child with canine instincts than he is the family pet. Buckles can display all the charm, innocence, naivete and cunning of a small child discovering how to find his way through life.

Flea
Although he's never seen, he is heard -- by Buckles. Flea lives behind Buckles' right ear and is quick to let the canine cutup know the error of his ways when he gets in trouble.

Arden

Arden
A bird of a very wise feather. Arden is the one Buckles goes to for sound advice and counsel, especially when he's in trouble with Paul and Jill.

Christina

Christina
Jill's niece and Buckles' chief nemesis. Christina loves putting dresses on Buckles and having tea parties -- when she can catch him.

Lester

Lester
Crippled from hip dysplasia, Lester never lets his disability hold him back. His positive attitude lifts him up and guides him down the road of life.

Rusty

Rusty
The neighborhood stray. Buckles looks up to Rusty and his freedom away from the leash.

Scrappy

Scrappy
A dirty, rude, obnoxious freeloader who lives in a tree in Buckles’ backyard. Scrappy is a pain in the neck to everyone around him. He knows it and loves it.

Paperboy

Paperboy
Buckles may be frightened of the mailman, but when it comes to the paperboy, he is ready to attack! Fortunately, for the young carrier, he has a powerful throwing arm and keen aim.

Irene

Irene
Buckles’ love interest. To everyone else, she is an inanimate object. To Buckles, she is the world! She is the object of his unrequited affection, which shows that relationships are what you make of them.
